A Detour to Meissen Germany

So during my Europe road trip last year, we decided to take a little day trip into Germany from Prague. We went to this small town called Meissen, which is well known for its famous porcelain that has been manufactured since 1710. The museum has a lot of little beautiful pieces and it includes a feature where you go from room to room to watch each step of the process, from creating porcelain to shaping it, setting it and painting it. It was a pretty unique experience.

We also stumbled upon the oldest castle in Germany called Albrechtsburg. It is regarded as being the first castle to be used as a royal residence in the German-speaking world. It was a castle I had never heard of before. Because of that, there was hardly anyone there and they let you walk around without a guide. It felt like a big grown-up fort, ducking into room after room. In the ballroom, you were to remove your shoes and wear this giant slippers, gliding around the ballroom.

Nearby is the 13th-century Gothic Meissen Cathedral, whose chapel is one of the most famous burial places of the Wettin family. The hill on which the castle and the cathedral are built offers a view over the roofs of the old town.

Closeby is a little cute hotel/restaurant with gorgeous views of Meissen and a beer garden. This was actually my first time in Germany and I really loved this small town! I think when I go back to Germany I'd like to see more of these small towns versus the big well-known cities.
